To Know More About car brake shoe replacement service

WHAT IS CAR BRAKE SHOE REPLACEMENT?

Car brake shoe replacement is literally the term used in referring to the replacement of brake shoes in cars that are fitted with drum brakes. These brake shoes are crescent-shaped in form and create friction against the inside of the brake drum to slow or stop the moving car or even any other vehicle. Every time you step on your brakes, friction continues developing to reduce the height of your brake shoes. Replacing worn-out brake shoes is essential for the continued performance of a functionally efficient braking system, especially for those cars fitted with rear drum brakes.

TYPES OF CAR BRAKE SHOE REPLACEMENT

1.  Rear Car Brake Shoe Replacement: Most newer models of the car employ the use of brake shoes on the rear wheels. Because the front brakes do most of the braking, rear brake shoes tend to wear out much more slowly and must be changed periodically.

2. Changing the brake shoes for the emergency or hand brake system: Many automobiles utilize brake shoes for their emergency or hand brake systems. These are typically much smaller and generally provide friction that ensures the car is stationary when parked. These brake shoes just like any other brake shoes, therefore also wear out and sometimes need replacement.

3. Replacement of Full Brake Shoe and Drum Assemblies: Where the brake drum assemblies are badly worn or damaged together with the brake shoes, a replacement of all is advisable. That would ensure proper and effective braking.

4. Shoe Adjustment on Brake Drums: In some cases, instead of replacing brake shoes entirely they can be adjusted to have perfect contact with the brake drum assembly thus giving long-serving life.

COMMON INDICATION THAT YOUR CAR BRAKE SHOE REPLACEMENT IS REQUIRED

1.  Squealing or Grinding Noise: A squealing or grinding noise when applying the brakes usually means that your brake shoes have worn down to the metal; the brake shoes need to be replaced right away.

2.  Brake Efficiency Reduced: If braking has become less effective, or the feeling when you press them isn't so responsive, then it might be time to change the brake shoes.

3. Handbrake/Emergency Brake Fails to Hold Vehicle when parked.-If your hand brake or emergency brake does not hold the vehicle whenever you park, this means that your brake shoes are probably worn out and need to be replaced.

4. Increased Travel of Brake Pedal to Press on Brake Pedal Braking-On periods- If it takes you longer than usual to be able to press down on the brake pedal enough to use them, it means that either your brake shoes are either worn out or that the pedal probably also needs some adjustment.

TIPS AFTER CAR BRAKE SHOE REPLACEMENT

1. Bedding-in Period: As a rule, after the brake shoe replacement, there is some bedding-in time wherein the shoes bed-in with the drum. Drive smoothly and avoid jerky braking in this phase.

 2. Periodic Checks: Brake shoes need to be checked periodically, if you drive under heavy traffic conditions, or even if you are using your vehicle for towing conditions. This wears them off much quicker than usual.

3. Handbrake Test: Once the brake shoes are replaced, observe how the handbrake functions and if it retains the vehicle properly stuck once applied.

4. Fluid and System Check: Replacing brake shoes would be a chance to examine your brake fluid level; check all other constituents of the braking system for proper working.
